Only little babies do that…

Trolley Folly

Posted by DINRIL on December 1, 2006

It’s a bit cramped in here…..!Yesterday we went to Ikea to look for a highchair for Emily (since feeding a small highly active baby on my lap has become impossible without us both getting covered in porridge, mashed carrots and the like).

As has been the case in the past, we assumed we’d be able to find one of those trolleys with the plastic seat attached – until Emily can sit up on her own we can’t use the other, more traditional trolley seat, even though she is started to look a little cramped in the plastic seat (cue yet more misty-eyed nostalgia as we remember how tiny she was the first time she sat in one).

To our surprise, however, there were no trolleys with plastic seats to be found – and when we asked a member of staff for assistance he didn’t have much luck either, disappearing across the cavernous car park only to return empty handed a few minutes later. In the end, I was forced to trudge all the way back to the car to get our pushchair – by which time they had, typically, found us one.

But naturally, we were a bit disgruntled that it was so difficult to find the trolley we needed when there were so many of the other variety around. Were we just unlucky? Or is Ikea not as family-friendly as we first thought?

Hmm. Maybe you can buy one online? Here in the states, that’s always an option, if you can’t get to ToysRUS, that is.

It always seems to be a toss-up, if you are looking for a place that is baby-friendly… Normally I could always see shopping carts with baby-seats in them at the grocery store, but the day that I need one, they have all disappeared…

After all you had to go through, were you able to at least find a highchair that you liked? 🙂

Those plastic molded baby seat things just started appearing outside of stores when my guys were little. I couldn’t stand them. They took up all the important room for my handbag and the smooshable things like eggs. (They were only found in supermarkets at first).

It always seems that when you want the cart with the plastic seat, they are nowhere to be found. But, when you want just a cart with no seat… there are seat ones all around! I don’t see many of them, actually, here in the States. I think because so many of the carseats can fit in the front of the carts now, there aren’t as many of the plastic seats needed.
Did you find the highchair that you wanted? I love Ikea. It is one of my favorite stores!!
Even with her being squished… Emily sure looks cute! 🙂
