Great Taste

Posted by Caroline on November 19, 2006

So far I haven’t felt too inclined to sample much of the food I’ve been making for Emily. Apart from having a very brief taste of the pear and apple puree, and the carrot and potato I made for her last week (simply to check it was edible and of the correct consistency for her), I’ve largely steered clear of picking at her dinner. As for breakfast, well her porridge just doesn’t look that appetising – she might like it, but to me it just looks ever so slightly like cement.

It seems, however, that my daughter has other ideas. This evening I gave her mashed avocado and banana – both of which I love, albeit separately.

She, on the other hand, absolutely loved this odd mix – in fact she loved it so much that midway through the feed, she showed her appreciation by pushing her avocado and banana covered hand into my mouth.

What did I think? Well….let’s just say that babies probably love it, but that there are some combinations that adults were just never meant to try.  And that was most definitely one of them.

Avocado and banana, that’s certainly different and I’m glad to hear that she liked it! Putting some into your mouth *could* have meant “here, YOU taste it” if she wouldn’t have liked it! 🙂 It sounds as if she’s doing absolutely great with adapting to solids!

OOh, just thinking about a little baby hand with mashed avocado and banana – coming near my mouth makes me queasy. Like you – I love avocado and banana, albeit separately!

I would have to agree with you that the combination does not sound appealing at all. I could never really get past the texture of baby food. I always said that if I had to eat babyfood I would really have a problem. I get it in my mouth and because of the texture I have a real hard time making myself actually swallow it.

The texture of baby food is difficult for me too… It sounds like you are preparing wonderfully healthful food for her, and Emily is adapting well to solids as well as learning to share already! 🙂

I never thought to feed a baby avacado, but its really a great idea. Avacado and banana… hmm… I prefer it with some garlic and lime juice 🙂

Mashing up “real” food for babies instead of buying the jars constantly is always a good feeling, isn’t it? I used a lot of the jars, but if I’d be doing it over, I’d experiment a *lot* more.
