Only little babies do that…

We have rolling…..!

Posted by Caroline on October 22, 2006

There was huge excitement in our household over the weekend when Emily rolled over for the first time. After weeks of putting her down on her back and watching her roll on to her side but failing to get any further, I decided to experiment with putting her on her front, to see if it made any difference.

Sure enough, she rolled on to her side twice – another first for her, since she has never rolled on to her side while lying on her front – and lay there, little legs kicking like mad in an effort to go the extra few inches.

Eventually, on the third attempt, and with much encouragement from us, she managed to roll on to her back – cue much screaming and applause from her rather proud parents. Although she has yet to repeat the feat, despite my putting her down on her tummy throughout the day and urging her to practise, I’m sure it’ll only be a matter of time before she does it again.

It does, however, mean she is gaining mobility, and as such we’re going to have to keep a very careful eye on her from now on. The more she gets the hang of her new skills, the less chance there is that she’ll stay in one place when we put her down on her playmat – or anywhere else for that matter. Time to consider babyproofing, I think.

That is just awesome that she is rolling over. But you are right one day you will put her in one place on the floor and the next thing you know she will be across the room.

Oh boy! It’s all action from here on out! Get ready for some mobility soon!

YAY Emily! As I was reading the entry, I was planning to say that it will soon be time to babyproof and then by the end of the entry, I think you read my mind! You’re right, it’s getting close! Don’t forget to get down to her level when she’s crawling (to babyproof) you may be surprised at things you see from that level that you wouldn’t have thought of as a danger previously.

  4. I just stumbled upon your site. Very sweet! These are wonderful days of babydom. It flies by so very fast! My baby is 19 months and thinks he’s a monkey. I’m a homeschooling mom with 3.

How did I miss this one? It’s amazing how they accomplish their first feats of strength and daring. I remember the look on my baby boy’s faces the first time they rolled over – kinda like “Oh my goodness! That was weird!”
