Update On Emily’s Cold

Posted by DINRIL on October 6, 2006

I’m feeling much better Mummy! As reported in my previous post, Emily got her first cold this week, resulting in a couple of very disturbed nights and one very distressed baby.

Happily things were much better on Thursday night when not only did she not wake up feeling unwell, she didn’t even wake up for a feed. It’s not the first time she’s slept through the night – the fourth in fact – but it’s the longest she has ever gone in one stretch at night – having fallen asleep at 8.15, we didn’t hear a peep out of her until 7am on Friday morning!

Part of this was of course down to the fact that she was exhausted, having not slept properly for a few days, but we also did our best to make sure she was comfortable, even going so far as to put a rolled-up towel and long pillow under her mattress so she was sleeping slightly upright (and hence was less likely to get a stuffy nose).

Of course the downside of that is the possibility that she might slide down the mattress during the night, and sure enough when I checked on her in the early hours (having woken around 5.30am to the sound of silence from her room) her head had descended from where it had been the previous night. To move her back up would have been to wake her up, however, so I simply checked she was OK and went back to bed. When she eventually woke up, we went in to get her and found her practically lying practically sideways in the cot, looking a bit lost and puzzled.

Anyway, the good news is that she’s been much brighter today – still a bit tired and still coughing, but very much better than she was. This evening she went off to sleep after a fairly big feed, only to wake up ten minutes later wanting more! She duly knocked back another 2oz and went back to sleep again. For once I was delighted when she woke up again so soon after going to sleep, and I’ll be even more delighted if she wakes up for her night feed tonight, since it means she has her appetite back. And that’s a definite sign that she’s on the mend.

    That’s good news. She’s a real cutie-pie!

Just wait until she gets older and goes to school – she’ll be catching bugs right and left!

Great to hear that the worst is behind now! It’s always so very annoying when coughs hang around so long.
